All of our Virginia Continuing Education courses are available in ONLINE format.



  Virginia Real Estate License - Education Requirements
   
  • Salesperson License

    • Be at least 18 years old.
    • Complete a 60-hour, board-approved prelicense course and pass a proctored final exam.
    • Pass the state and national portions of the salesperson exam.
  • Salesperson Post License

    • New real estate licensees must complete a 30-hour post license course within the mandated time frame. The licensee can choose from the following 3 practice tracks:
      • Residential Real Estate
        • Commercial Real Estate
          • Property Management
        • Broker License

          • Be at least 18 years old.
          • Complete 180 hours of board-approved broker prelicense courses and pass proctored final exams.
          • Pass the state and national portions of the broker exam.
          • Submit verification of experience: Must be actively engaged as a salesperson for 36 out of the 48 months preceding application for licensure.
        • Continuing Education

          • Salespersons (who have renewed license at least once before)
            • Every 2 years, 16 hours of continuing education as prescribed:
              • 3 hours in Ethics and Standards of Conduct
              • 2 hours in Fair Housing
              • 1 hour in Legal Updates and Emerging Trends
              • 1 hour in Real Estate Agency
              • 1 hour in Real Estate Contracts
              • 8 remaining hours in Real Estate Related subjects or in the required topics above.
          • Brokers
            • Every 2 years, 24 hours of continuing education as prescribed:
              • 8 hours in Broker Management and Agent Supervision
              • 3 hours in Ethics and Standards of Conduct
              • 2 hours in Fair Housing
              • 1 hour in Legal Updates and Emerging Trends
              • 1 hour in Real Estate Agency
              • 1 hour in Real Estate Contracts
              • 8 remaining hours in Real Estate Related subjects or in the required topics above.
        • Renewals

          • All licensees renew two years from the last day of the month in which the license was first issued.
